Hume Batters

LOCATION

Pascoe Vale Road, Hume City

DURATION

Since 2005+

OBJECTIVE

Low-maintenance native revegetation

In 2005, Flora Victoria sowed the first of many bridge batters for Hume City Council. The goal was to establish a low-maintenance ground cover that would also be visually acceptable to the public.

Thanks to regular weed spraying beforehand, the sites had minimal weed seed banks, creating ideal conditions for sowing native grass. The native grasses have performed extremely well, providing stable, attractive vegetation across the batters.

To date, Flora Victoria has sown over 20 bridge batters along Pascoe Vale Road. These now stand out as a landscape feature of the area. Future plans aim to enrich the plantings further by introducing indigenous wildflowers.
